Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now shall it spring forth. I will even make a road in the wilderness. And add rivers in the desert.
What if the only thing holding you back isn’t the future—but your grip on the past?
I used to do that a lot. I used to hold grudges and I remembered bad episodes of what my own family members and what people said about me. It only put a strain on my life and it caused me NOT to move forward with the things God has in store for me.
Like for example when I was called ugly, I didn’t have the esteem to put on a dress for a LONG TIME. That’s the impact of me holding onto the past- and not letting go of that terrible nonsense.
You’ll waste your life not wearing cute dresses because of what someone said back in 1997.
Let Go of the Past!
Yesterday was the past, 1990 was the past. When you lost your home was the past.
God is doing a new thing today if you receive that! Now it shall spring forth, do you believe that?
How did I get ditch the past?
I decided to let go of the past and asked God to help me forgive those that know not what they do and my self-esteem went up. I wanted to be free.
Now I can wear a dress with my head held high and my self-esteem is better.
You have to want to be free and move on.
What about you?
What negative thing from the past is holding you back so you can’t get to your better future?
Can you forgive and let it go and move on?
Because God has something better in store for you!
Thank you for sharing such a powerful and honest reflection. Your words are a beautiful reminder of how much power the past can hold over us if we let it. But also, how much freedom there is in choosing to release it. You’re right: the words and wounds from the past, especially when they come from those closest to us, can linger far longer than we realize. And when we keep replaying those old tapes in our minds; what they said, what they did, how it made us feel, we end up building invisible walls around our progress, our peace, and even our purpose.
I love what you said:
“You’ll waste your life not wearing cute dresses because of what someone said back in 1997.”
That’s real. And it applies to so much more than just dresses. We hold back our voices, our gifts, our dreams, our joy all because of something (or someone) that was never meant to define us.
But your shift is inspiring. Asking God to help you forgive, releasing those who hurt you, and lifting your self-esteem that’s the path to healing. And it takes courage. You’re not just wearing the dress now, you’re walking in purpose.
As for me? I think many people carry something a rejection, a label, a loss that tries to whisper lies into their future. But your testimony is proof that we can let go. We can move on. And we can step into the “new thing” God is doing.
So yes today, not yesterday, is where the miracle lives.
Let’s be brave enough to leave the past where it belongs, and bold enough to walk freely into the beautiful future waiting for us.
Thank you for this. ❤️
So much truth here! Holding on only weighed you down, but choosing freedom unlocked your healing.🙌🏾 God is doing a new thing!!! and I am so glad you’re walking in it.. with your dress on and your head held high sis! ♥️
