The Disconnect Between Faith and Finances in Today's Church
Why So Many People Don't Trust Church Offerings
This subject got people tighter than their budget the day before payday.
Here are some reasons why some people felt they’ve been spiritually mugged at the altar.
They watched People Give, Give and Give
And then they say they’ve watched leaders misuse the funds like it was their personal PTO fund. No explanation, no accountability just new suits, luxury cars and ten offerings per service while Sister Patsy still can’t get her wheelchair ramp fixed.
People aren’t mad about giving.
They’re mad about what it’s being used for and the silence that follows when they ask questions. That’s not rebellion. That’s discernment.
People say they’ve noticed how churches say “Give and it shall be given unto you,” but never teach you how to budget or build a savings account?
And then it gets worse.
In their mind people think “how are you gonna rebuke me for not tithing when I literally had to choose between giving 10% or paying for my kids asthma medicine?” And then act like I’m spiritually deficient cause I chose my child’s lungs over the collection plate?
Manipulation is dressed up as faith
Some Crooked leaders have turned tithing into a divine vending machine. Like “Sow this $100 seed right now and God will send your Boaz, a Tesla, and a business loan by Tuesday.”
That’s not faith. That’s manipulation in a holy outfit.
God is not for sale and he don’t need your money to bless you.
He asks For Your Heart First.
People also believe this:
Shame is the Offering Envelope nobody talks about. People have felt ashamed to walk past the offering plate with nothing to give. They’ve felt like God was judging their bank account and salvation.
Let’s be clear
That shame didn’t come from God. That’s human performance pressure wrapped in a church program. Giving should be out of love and trust, NOT guilt, fear, or a side-eye from Brother Ricardo in row two OK.
People don’t really know what “Cheerfully giving” really feels like!
People don’t know what it’s like to give Joyfully. They’ve only known forced giving, broke giving, guilt-giving or “ I hope this don’t overdraft my account” giving.
True giving is the kind that FEELS good. The kind that comes from overflow, not obligation. That’s different. That’s what you call Spiritual freedom baby!
That’s when you know, You’re not giving to get, You’re giving because you’re already blessed.
We know People are bothered because they’ve been burned. They’ve been told to trust God with their wallet while watching folks in leadership act like CEO’s of a prosperity pyramid.
Don’t Throw Away God because of people
Don’t let spiritual misuse rob you of divine promises.
When Tithes and offerings are done right, It’s POWERFUL. It blesses others, it HONORS God, and it does open doors.
Just make sure your giving is led by God, not by guilt, not by hype, and not by tradition.
Why?
Because God LOVES a cheerful giver, not a manipulated one.
Yes, the manipulation is real! The greed is appalling.
Powerful words! I've sat in churches where I've literally been told that by giving/tithing, I'll have wealth come to me. That sounds like a pyramid scheme, and it's not what authentic giving is about.
